Frequently Asked

Questions new members often ask.

Do I need to speak English fluently?

Working-level English is helpful for meetings, but we celebrate multilingual Lions. Several charter members speak multiple languages and we often pair newer members with a cultural buddy.

How much time does membership take?

Typically one evening meeting a month and one service day a month. Additional project work is opt-in based on your interest and availability.

Are there membership dues?

Yes — Lions Clubs worldwide have annual dues that cover International, National, and District membership plus our club operations. SMULC dues are set to be accessible; we also have consideration for students and low-income members.

Is SMULC connected to a religion or political party?

No. Lions Clubs International is strictly non-political and non-sectarian. SMULC welcomes members of all faiths, backgrounds, and political views.

Can my whole family be involved?

Absolutely. Family members can volunteer at service days, and we're setting up a Leo Club (youth branch) for teenagers.
