Our Story

How SMULC began.

SMULC was founded in 2026 by a group of Sydney Lions who recognised something was missing. Sydney is home to hundreds of cultural communities, and many have their own Lions Clubs — Sydney Chinese Lions, Sydney Sri Lankan Lions, Sydney Indian Lions, and more. Each does remarkable work within its own community.

But we saw a gap: a Lions Club where people from every cultural background serve together, where a newly arrived international student, a long-settled Australian, and a first-generation migrant sit at the same meeting table and build projects that benefit all of Sydney.

That vision became real on 11 April 2026 when the charter members of the Lions Club of Sydney Multicultural Unity met for the first time at 96 Salisbury Road, Burwood NSW 2134. Our charter was witnessed by the District 201N5 District Governor and his team, officially welcoming us into the Lions family.

We're based at 5 George St, North Strathfield NSW 2137, putting us right in Sydney's most multicultural precincts — the perfect home for a club whose whole purpose is cultural unity through service.

Community Recognition

Recognised for service that matters.

The Strathfield MP hosted a community service award ceremony recognising individuals who have made a significant contribution to our local community — and SMULC members were among those honoured.

For a charter-year club, this kind of external recognition is a meaningful vote of confidence: service done in Strathfield is being noticed where it counts, and it reinforces why SMULC exists — to put multicultural service at the heart of the community we live in.
